Giant
Benandonner
The Scottish giant of the Causeway’s popular ending.
First met in print in 1832, in an Antrim farmer’s telling in the Dublin Penny Journal, where he is beaten and settles down in Ireland. The version in which he flees home tearing up the causeway is later. No meaning for his name is recorded.
