Gráinne
Cormac’s daughter, who would not marry a man older than her father.
Daughter of Cormac mac Airt, she refused every prince in Ireland and was then promised to the ageing Fionn. At the betrothal feast at Tara she put the king’s people to sleep with a goblet of drink and laid a geis on Diarmuid to take her away, and the two were hunted across Ireland for sixteen years. After Diarmuid’s death she sent their sons to learn war and avenge him, yet the tale ends with her at Fionn’s side until they died.
