Ingcél the One-eyed
Ingcél
The one-eyed son of the king of Britain, who led the reavers against Da Derga’s Hostel.
He met Conaire’s exiled foster-brothers on the sea and made a pact with them: they would reave in his country, and he in theirs. In Britain his father, his mother and his seven brothers, guests that night in the house of the king of his district, were all destroyed by him in one night, and then he came to Ireland for his due. His single eye, in Stokes’s translation, was “wide as an oxhide”, and when he had looked into Da Derga’s Hostel and seen who was there, he would not turn back.
