Person
Mongfind
Mongfhionn · Old Irish Mongfind
Eochaid’s queen, who hated Niall and set his mother to draw the water of Tara.
Daughter of Fidach, wife of Eochaid Mugmedón and mother of Brian, Ailill, Fiachra and Fergus. Great was her magic, and the men of Ireland feared her. She set Cairenn to drawing the water of Tara so that her child would die in the womb, and when Niall came back grown, she told her sons to quarrel so that he would come between them and be killed. Geoffrey Keating says she gave her own brother, Criomhthann, a poisoned drink, hoping the kingship would pass to her favourite son, Brian, and died of the same drink herself, having taken some of it to urge him to drink.
