Clochán na bhFomhórach
The Giant's Causeway · Co. Antrim
The stepping-stones of the Fomorians.
Some forty thousand basalt columns, most of them six-sided, formed as lava cooled and cracked fifty to sixty million years ago. Tradition made them a road to Scotland built by Fionn. The official Irish name today is Clochán an Aifir; the older literary name remembers the Fomorians. A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1986.
