It has many names: the Land of the Young, the Plain of Delight, Emain of the apple trees. It lies west over the sea, or under the hills. Time runs differently there; its music puts mortals to sleep; you may be invited by a woman with an apple or a silver branch, and you may not come back the same.

In the tales

  • Cormac and the Silver Branch A grey-haired stranger brings Cormac a silver branch whose music puts every sorrow to sleep. The price: his daughter, his son and his wife.
  • The Adventure of Connla A woman only Connla can see calls him to a land without death, and throws him an apple that feeds him for a month and never grows smaller.
  • The Voyage of Bran Music puts Bran to sleep, and he wakes beside a silver branch in blossom. He is gone a year, he thinks. At home he is already an old story.
