Iorras Domhnann is the old name of Erris, at the north-western edge of Mayo. Off its coast lies Inis Gluaire, “island of purity”, with the remains of an early monastery: St Brendan’s church, beehive cells, a holy well and carved cross-slabs. Here the swans heard the bell of Mochaomhóg.
